These Dual VPG cards are built on the same 4TH gen architecture and deliver the same premium quality and reliability as ProGrade Digital's existing 480GB and 960GB CFexpress 4.0 Type A Iridium cards. The key difference is that the 512GB and 1TB models feature dual VPG certification, supporting both VPG400 and VPG800 standards, along with higher sustained write performance for demanding professional video workflows.
These cards are Dual VPG, meaning the card is certified for both VPG400 and VPG800 performance standards. As a result, it supports both CompactFlash Association VPG Profile 4 (VPG200 and VPG400) and Profile 5 (VPG800), giving you compatibility with today's professional cameras while helping ensure you're ready for future cameras and recording formats.
The ProGrade Digital CFexpress 4.0 Type A Iridium Dual VPG cards are compatible with cameras that support the CFexpress Type A memory card format. At the time of writing, this includes the Sony Alpha, Alpha 7S III, Alpha 7R V, Alpha 7R VI, FX2, FX3, FX6, FX30, and FR7. While we strive to keep this list as up to date as possible, additional Sony cameras may have been introduced since this FAQ was written.
No. Currently, there are no cameras that require VPG800 certified memory cards. However, the VPG800 standard has been established by the CompactFlash Association for future professional video workflows. That's why ProGrade Digital's CFexpress 4.0 Type A Iridium Dual VPG cards are certified for VPG800 today—so you'll be ready as future cameras adopt the new standard.
To achieve the highest transfer speeds with this card, we recommend using one of our USB 4.0 card readers, such as the PG09.7 CFexpress Type A and SDXC UHS-II Dual-Slot Reader or the PG09.6 CFexpress Type A Single-Slot Reader. The card is also fully compatible with our PG09 CFexpress Type A and SDXC UHS-II Dual-Slot Reader and PGM12 Single-Slot Mobile Reader, which features a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface.
CFexpress Type A and CFexpress Type B are different physical card formats and are not interchangeable. CFexpress Type A cards are smaller, measuring 20 × 28 × 2.8 mm, while CFexpress Type B cards measure 29.6 × 38.5 × 3.8 mm. In addition to their size, Type A cards use a PCIe Gen4 x1 interface, while Type B cards use a PCIe Gen4 x2 interface, resulting in different maximum performance capabilities. Always use the card type specified by your camera manufacturer.
